Knowledge gaining:Students will gain knowledge about Natural disasters in various ways. They will visit an interactive website which allows them to gain information about what the disaster they are assigned to, like how they occur, what the disaster is, and the effects of the disaster on the surrounding community. Next, the student will research a major occurrence of their disaster in the last ten years.
Knowledge organizing: Students will work in groups and individually to organize the information they have found. First they students will work in their groups to organize all the information they gained through the website. Next the students will work in their groups to research and organize the information they found about a major occurrence of their disaster in the last ten years. Lastly, the student will independently write a one page reflective essay about their experience with these activities.
Knowledge sharing:Students will share their information with other in different ways. First they will construct a wiki page about their disaster then they will write a short reflective essay they post into the class blog site. Students will comment on each others' blog posts.
Preparation:
The teacher will have to create a wiki for each group using Wikispaces and invite all students to have access to their group's page.
The teacher will have to create a class blog for the students to post and comment on the reflection essay.
